February
President's Message
I’m sure all of you are thinking wait a minute…it’s February already? It seems like every year, time speeds up just a little, life gets a little more hectic and before we know it, another year has passed.
There are moments in life that cause us to slow down and appreciate the little things that bring joy and meaning us. A sudden loss of a young family member has me thinking on what it really means to appreciate the people, places, and little things about life this month. The times that seem so fleeting but stay with you for years to come, and the things you do in life that give you purpose.
Our purpose within FPA is to serve our members, our profession, and our community through continuing education, advocacy, and public outreach.
I appreciate each and every member who takes time from their schedule to attend a meeting, event, or volunteer opportunity.
I am thankful for our board who serves our chapter every day.
I am grateful for the partnerships we have with both external organization as well as our internal partners.
I encourage you to show your appreciation and love for others not only on Valentine’s Day, but each time you feel it.
Spread the love! It’s February after all.
Callie

Tax Advantages of Using a Donor Advised Fund for Your Charitable Giving
Presented by Jim Bradford, CAP
Join us Thursday, February 21st as we welcome Jim Bradford, of the National Christian Foundation Alabama to speak on the topic of charitable giving through a Giving (Donor Advised) Fund. There are many benefits of using a Giving Fund for your charitable giving. Some of those benefits are it simplifies giving by using the internet, you can set up recurring grant schedules, the ease of tax preparation, making sure that all donations are tax deductible by using it for all of your giving and training children/grandchildren in generosity. However, the biggest benefit of a Giving Fund is the tax savings available by giving out of Non-Cash assets or alternative assets such as business interests, real estate, life insurance etc…. The majority of Americans do most of their giving out of their cash reserves even though most American’s wealth is primarily in the form of Non-Cash (primary home, secondary home, business interest, stock portfolio, retirement account etc…). National Christian Foundation’s specialty or “sweet spot” is helping donor’s unlock these Non-Cash assets for charitable giving while showing them how to save HUGE amounts in taxes! Jim will educate us on how a Giving Fund through NCF works as well as how it can be used in some very creative ways to offer huge tax savings for us and our clients.
Jim Bradford is the Vice President of NCF Alabama. After working in the family Food Brokerage business for 20 years, Jim earned his real estate license in 2000 and purchased a company named The Buyer’s Agent, Bradford Realty. In 2004 he earned his broker’s license and became the company’s Qualifying Broker. In 2012 he joined NCF Alabama that was started in 2008 by his dad, Tom Bradford, as a Relationship Manager and is currently serving as Vice- President. In 2017, Jim earned the designation of Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy, CAP.
he meeting will be held at the Federal Reserve building in Liberty Park. Lunch starts at 11:30, and we will move to our meeting room at 12:00 for the presentation and announcements. We hope you can attend and look forward to seeing you at this month’s chapter meeting!

Guest Policy
In an effort to boost membership, we have removed the financial incentive to be a continual guest at chapter meetings. First time guests may attend a chapter meeting at no charge. A guest’s second and all further meetings require a $50 charge. As an incentive to join, members receive great discounts for chapter meetings, social events, Symposium, plus access to free CE in the Journal of Financial Planning. Between the networking, continuing education and advocacy of our profession, we believe that the cost of membership is far exceeded by the value. Guest policy adopted by the 2016 FPANA Board of Directors.
