Chapter Meetings

Defending IRS Audits on Conservation Easements
Meeting sponsored by Dixon Wells

We are very pleased to announce that Ronald Levitt will be the guest presenter at our next chapter meeting on January 16th, 2020. How familiar are you with conservation easements? As the impact of tax reform hits the planning and investment community, previous charitable giving strategies find themselves in vogue once again. Many of us know or have heard about conservation easements, but how much do we know about the risks involved? Mr. Levitt is an expert in defending these easements and will guide us through many of the pitfalls and audit considerations, while providing a basic understanding of the strategy.

Ronald’s practice focuses on two main areas. First, he handles federal and state controversy matters, including planning and defending conservation easements. Second, his practice focuses on business and tax planning, particularly for closely held and family-owned businesses. Specifically, he counsels clients in business planning, succession planning, estate planning, charitable deduction planning, entity formation, represents S corporations, limited liability companies, and other flow-through entities, mergers and acquisitions, purchases and sales of businesses, and healthcare law by representing physician practices.

Mr. Levitt holds a BS and an MBA from University of Alabama, a JD from the University of Alabama Law School, and an LLM from University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Seating is limited for this event, so please register today.

The meeting will be held at the Federal Reserve building in Liberty Park. Lunch starts at 11:30, and we will move to our meeting room at 12:00 for the presentation and announcements. We hope you can attend and look forward to seeing you at this month’s chapter meeting!

President's Message

Happy New Year, and welcome back! I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season! We are so excited to be back with a new year and a new decade. Our board recently held our annual planning meeting, and we are looking forward to a great year!

We are aggressively filling our partnership spots, but if you know of any company or group that would like to be a sponsor, then please let David LeCompte know. We certainly can’t do what we do as a chapter without partner support.

Our first chapter meeting of the year will be on Thursday, January 16th at the Federal Reserve Building. Remember lunch is at 11:30 and then we will move into our meeting at 12:00.

Be on the lookout for upcoming dates to be published soon. We are planning to have the Member/Partner Barons game event in the spring, as well as our annual symposium in the fall. Also be on the lookout for information about our state and national advocacy days.

Social media for our chapter is here! Be sure to like our Instagram page at FPA_northal and follow our LinkedIn Page at FPA of North Alabama.

I hope to see everyone at the January meeting as we embark on our new year!
